Comments: My wife of 40 years, Dolora Ann (Ryan) Schlesinger passed away on May 22, 2009. We had relocated to Florida in 2007 when I retired and were parishioners at Blessed Pope John XXIII church in Fort Myers. In spite of a chronic lung disease, Dolora was a lecter at our church and proclaimed God's word during mass on May 17, just hours before she was admitted to the hospital for the last time.
She raised three children to adulthood, while working fulltime. We have 4 grandchildren who adored Dolora
I have never known a better person. I loved her every day of our marriage and I miss her desperately.

CHARLES F. SPECK JR., father-in-law to Beth Speck, AASH President
CHARLES F. SPECK, JR, beloved husband, father and "Popee" (to his granddaughters) went to Heaven on the 23rd of October, 2009. Charles was born in Victoria, Texas on the 12th of December, 1927 to Charles and Georgia Speck. He is survived by the love of his life, Norma, to whom he was married for fifty-nine years. His three sons; David (Beth), Michael (Sharon) and Stephen (Beth Ann) and their daughters (Popee's precious girls: Laura, Emily, Kalyn, Annie and Kelly) also survive him. Like his father before him, Charles Speck Sr., whose railroad career started with the early T&NO railroad, Charles, too, was a career railroader with that same line and then later with the Southern Pacific after their merger in the early 60's. As a young railroader, one of his first chores was filling the sand domes on old steamers; including #982 that still sits in front of Minute Maid Park today. After retirement in 1982, he then worked alongside his three sons in the sporting goods business. There was never a more Country-loving, patriotic man than Charles. He always flew Old Glory and knew every rule on flag etiquette and proudly enforced them on all around him. Popee's greatest love was for "my thirteen": his family. We all look forward to seeing you again some day, at the end of those great rails that lead to Heaven. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from half past five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening, with recitation of the rosary at seven o'clock on Monday, the 26th of October in the Jasek chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Mass of Christian Burial is to be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 27th of October, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell Street in Houston. Rite of committal will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be his three sons and Randy Jatzlau, Johnny Baker and Scott Gregurek.

Comments: Your Prayers, thoughts and solutions are welcome: My father, William Farnan - a longtime supporter of the Schools of the Sacred Heart, as Calligrapher and parent - is facing an owner move-in eviction after 30 years of residence in a single family home in San Francisco at 75. He has been the sole occupant for many years now, since I moved out and my mother passed away. The economy finds me unemployed and still in my studio apartment, so there is little I can do. Feel free to contact me with any concrete ideas, legal options have been reviewed and are slim but not completely exhausted yet. He is still a productive (cogent, healthy, active) artist and that is also a concern for his new space, as well as is income.
Thank you. Daniel

Comments: My friends Hope and David and their teenage sons Mark and Wade have asked for our prayers. In April Hope was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. In mid-May, their home was completely destroyed by an electrical fire. The family escaped unharmed, with just the pajamas they were wearing, but the family's three pets died in the fire. Yesterday afternoon Hope and David's beautiful 11-year old daughter Abigail died of spinal meningitis. Three weeks ago Abby had watched a television program about organ donation. Remembering how close they had come to perishing in the house fire, Abby asked that the family make arrangements to donate their organs should anything happen to any one of them. The family honored Abby's wishes and by happenstance, a close family friend is the recipient of Abby's liver. The family is in the midst of rebuilding their home and helping Mark get ready for his departure to college next month. The start of the school year will be especially hard for Hope as she home-schooled Abby.

Dear Lord,
That voice
I hear in the winds and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me! I am small and weak; I need your strength and wisdom.
LET ME WALK IN BEAUTY, and make my eyes ever behold the red
and purple sunset.
MAKE MY HANDS respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
MAKE ME WISE so that
I may understand the things you have taught us.
LET ME LEARN the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I SEEK STRENGTH, not to be greater than another, but to fight my
greatest enemy --myself.
MAKE ME ALWAYS READY to come to you with clean hands and
straight eyes.
SO WHEN LIFE FADES, as the fad
ing sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.
