Please pray for my dear friend, Sue Worner Tierney's father, who waited for Sue to return from the AASH Conference in Los Angeles so that she could be with him when he left us to join his Lord.

Worner, Albert Charles "Alsie"

Albert Charles Worner ("Alsie") Cherished by family, a friend to all he met, and deeply appreciated by the many organizations he supported, Albert Worner ("Alsie" to family) passed away peacefully on April 27, 2009 surrounded by family members and holding hands with his wife. Born and raised in San Francisco, Al was a shining example of how to live a good life and a proud member of the esteemed "Class of '36" at St. Ignatius High School. His consistently engaging personality, positive attitude, and abiding faith endeared him to all whose lives he touched. During WWII he courted the love of his life while on short leaves and in 1944 married her, Evelyn Marie Cassidy; their life together has been a grand adventure for almost 65 years. While Al enjoyed exceptional professional success during his career in the printing industry, his family was the source of his greatest pride. Not only did Alsie shower his family with great affection and attention, he and Evelyn were extremely generous with their children and grandchildren. There was no end to his desire to share joy, travels, summer days in San Anselmo, holidays, time and treasure with his family. His smile, laugh, wonderful stories, warmth and energy will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Marie Worner; brother Reverend William Worner, brother-in-law Reverend Felix Cassidy, O.P.; children Sue Tierney (Marty), Judi Hurabiell (John), Richard Worner (Cathy) and Nancy Fleck (Chris); grandchildren Marie Hurabiell (Andrew Trader), Michele Beasley (Michael), Heather Luongo (Phil), Rich Worner (Sessa), Betsy Worner, Jennifer Houser (Trevor), John Hurabiell, Jr. and Harrison Worner; great-grandchildren Oliver Worner, Cassidy Hurabiell Trader, Philip, III, Nicholas and Luca Luongo, Madeline and Samantha Beasley; as well as many nieces and nephews and his dedicated caregiver Sera Cama. Friends are invited to a Rosary and Mass at 11:30a.m., Friday, May 1, at Saint Dominic's Catholic Church, 2390 Bush Street, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Dominic's Restoration Fund. McAvoy-O'Hara Co. (415) 668-0077

Also, my grandson, Christopher Persons of Grand Rapids, MI will have his #6 surgery, since his horrendous motorcycle accident on 9/11/08.  Surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday, the 25th, and Feast of the Annunciation. Whether Chris will walk again hinges on the Lord's will & the surgeons skill in this operation!! May we lean on your prayers....thank you so much!!

We ask your prayers for Miss Anne Bernet O'Donnell, 2009 Central Region Cor Unum recipient, who died in her sleep Sunday night, March 8, at her home in Cleveland.  She had shown no signs of ill health.

At 72, Anne, Manhattanville Class of 1959, was the visionary and indefatigable head of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Northeastern Ohio and of the newly established Alumnae/i of the Sacred Heart of Northeastern Ohio.  As her coworker Ann Coakley Anderson wrote in Esprit de Coeur (while Anne was here to enjoy it): "Anne O'Donnell has not only kept the flame of the Sacred Heart ignited in Ohio, she has spread the fire into the hearts and minds of children across the entire community."

Anne's Jesuit friend Father Robert Welsh still plans to deliver the Cor Unum tribute for her at the AASH National Conference in Los Angeles on April 25. Her many other friends and fans will be there, accepting on her behalf the admiration and gratitude of the AASH.

May we all live out her legacy.

We also ask prayers for Olga Rome's husband, Curtis, who remains hospitalized and very seriously ill. Olga is uncertain if she will be able to attend the ceremony to receive the Cor Unum award for the Southern Region.

All this certainly points to the deeper meaning of Cor Unum as we join together in prayer and care.

Good Morning Everyone

I write to ask for your prayers for Clare Pratt, our Superior General.  On Sunday night Clare felt unwell and contacted her doctor who advised her to go to the hospital immediately. They diagnosed a small embolism in her right arm and she was admitted into St. John Lateran Hospital (Rome) for treatment and for further tests. They removed the embolism in a simple surgery on Monday and are doing various tests to determine the appropriate treatment.  While it appears that this is not serious, I did want you to know, and ask for your prayer.

Please continue your prayers for those families suffering from the drop in the economy.  We are one family in Heart.
