Good Morning Everyone

I have just had a request to pray for a young man who is currently serving his second term in Iraq.  His name is Liam Fiske.  His mother is the cousin of a very dear friend.  I know that we all pray for our troops daily if not several times a day.  When you do, please add Liam to your list.

I want to thank you for praying for the safe return of our dear friends, Barbara and Charlie Dunlap's son,Boots.
Boots returned after serving two terms in Afganistan and Iraq in constant combat.  He is safe in the arms of his family with a new baby due in March.

Prayer is so powerful.
God bless all of you, and God Bless America
Happy Trails, Marcie

Please remember in your prayers Tom Agnew who went to God this morning. His wonderful wife, Nancy, our AASH past president (2001-2003), was at his side, as she has been for the past seven months while he battled lung cancer. Tom was a great friend to AASH, offering wise counsel, generous service, and unforgettable hospitality over the years. He also delighted in coming along to regional, national, and even international conferences! For many of us, though, the greatest gift Tom gave us was his uplifting and inspiring love of family and love of life. The four Agnew children (all Sacred Heart alums) and their spouses join Nancy in thanking everyone for all the support during Tom's illness. Read their own words at PopPop's Site and read tributes to Tom at LUNGevity Foundation.

Sr. Condon was a well know writer of poetry and how fitting that I found the following:
Verse for a Christmas Card
Today would they have come in a borrowed car
bumper to bumper, looking for a place
"No Vacancy" on all the motels?
Would the birthing be in a gas station
passersby, homeless too, offering help?
Beyond the DJ music could they hear
a new song piercing the night
stars dancing, and a child's first cry?

Sr. Helen M. Condon, rscj (1921-2006)
Sister Helen Condon, longtime educator in Omaha, Neb., and Lake Forest, Ill., died Thursday, December 21, at Oakwood Convent of the Sacred Heart, Atherton, Calif., following a long illness. She was 85 and had been a Religious of the Sacred Heart for 61 years.
Sister Condon was a native of the Chicago area. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Ill., and earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Greek from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in 1942. She entered the Society of the Sacred Heart the following year, professing her temporary vows in 1945 and her final vows in 1951.
She continued her studies while preparing for final vows, earning a master’s degree in English and Greek from Catholic University of America in 1949 and a doctorate in English, with a specialty in American literature, from Stanford University in 1953.
Sister Condon began her teaching ministry at Academy of the Sacred Heart, Chicago in 1945. During five decades as an educator in Sacred Heart schools, she served as dean of students at Barat College in Lake Forest from 1952 to 1955 and oversaw administration of the boarding and day school at Academy of the Sacred Heart (now Woodlands Academy) in Lake Forest from 1955 to 1964.
She then moved to Omaha, where she served as professor and academic dean of  Duchesne College for four years (the college closed in 1968) and as principal of Duchesne Academy, a four-year high school, from 1972 to 1978.
In the intervening years, from 1968 to 1972, she worked in administration for her religious community in the Chicago area and served as an editor on the staff of the Secretariat of International Union of Superiors General in Rome.
From 1979 to 1981, Sister Condon served as special assistant to the president of Catholic University in Washington D.C. while studying scripture and theology there. She also did graduate work in education and theology at Creighton University and Loyola University in Chicago and at Gregorian University in Rome.
Sister Condon was a poet whose work flowed from her contemplative life. Her work was published in Review for Religious and other publications.
She taught English and religious studies at Barat College and directed the campus ministry office from 1981 until 1993, when she moved to Oakwood Convent of the Sacred Heart, a retirement center for the Religious of Sacred Heart in Atherton, Calif.
Sister Condon is survived by a sister, Barbara O’Shaughnessy of Wilmette, Ill. She was preceded in death by another sister, Joan Condon McIntyre of Chicago.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at Oakwood at 10 a.m. December 29 followed by burial in the convent cemetery. Arrangements are pending for a memorial Mass at Woodlands Academy in Lake Forest.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of the Sacred Heart, 4389 West Pine Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.

Please pray for Robert Shaw that he finds a way to incorporate the beautiful Barat Chapel -Lake Forest, IL in his design for a great room or concert room anything.  At this point in time he feels the 100 year plus Chapel must be torn down to create a parking lot.

Today on the Feast of Mater Admirabilis, I am remembering all of you in my thoughts and prayers. I am so thankful for my Sacred Heart education and for the many friendships I have formed over the years with fellow alumnae and alumni. We have many challenges that are possible to meet with each other's help. Have a wonderful day!

MY NAME IS BETTY MARTIN,
WHEN MY 24 YR OLD SON CAME TO VISIT SUNDAY,HE COULD NOT GET OUT OF HIS CAR BECAUSE HE WAS HAVING SEVER CHEST PAINS,AND COULD NOT EVEN NOT SWALLOW A SIP OF WATER WITH OUT SEVER PAIN. MY HUSBAND AND I BEGGED HIM FOR 30 MINS TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. HE FINALLY AGREED ,IF HIS SISTER TAMMY WOULD GO WITH HIM. OF COURSE TAMMY GOT HIM TO THE LOCAL ER. AFTER ABOUT 1 1/2 HOURS,THE DOCTOR COMES IN AND SAYS BLUNTLY "YOU'VE GOT CANCER".AFTER A FEW QUESTIONS LIKE DO YOU HAVE NIGHT SWEATS,HE SAID YES,FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS THEN ON TO, ARE YOU TIRED,DO YOU FEEL LIGHT HEADED,HAVE YOU BEEN HAVING FEVERS,AN UNEXPLAINABLE RASH,ETC. ? HE ANSWERED YES TO ALL. THE NEXT DAY BASED ON DUSTINS GUESS AT HOW LONG HE HAD BEEN HAVING NIGHT SWEATS, HE TOLD DUSTIN "YOU'VE HAD THIS FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS". HE HAS A SOFTBALL SIZE TUMOR IN BETWEEN HIS LUNGS,PUTTING PRESSURE ON HIS AORTA ,WINDPIPE AND HIS ESOPHAGUS.THIS IS NOT WHAT IS CAUSING THE SEVER PAIN.THEY CALLED IN A DR TO CHECK HIS ESOPHAGUS BECAUSE HE COULD NOT SWALLOW.THEY FOUND IT RIDDLE WITH ULCERS CAUSED BY STRESS.ONCE THE HOSPITAL GETS THIS CALMED DOWN HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SWALLOW AGAIN.THEY PUT A FEEDING TUBE IN HIM TUESDAY.THAT NIGHT HE ALREADY LOOKED BETTER AND HE DID NOT SEEM AS WEAK.WEDNESDAY THEY DID A BONE MARROW BIOPSY.THURSDAY THEY ARE GOING TO DO A BIOPSY OF THE TUMOR TO SEE WHAT KIND OF CANCER AND HOW FAR IT HAS ADVANCED. I AM PRAYING EVERYDAY FOR MY SON. MIRACLES HAPPEN EVERY DAY.THE DR'S SAY THAT IF ITS LYMPHOMA,THERE IS A HIGH RATE OF BEING CANCER FREE IN THE DISTANT FUTURE,SO PLEASE PRAY FOR DUSTIN.PRAYER GOES A LONG WAY. PLEASE FORWARD TO EVERYONE.WE NEED ALL THE PRAYERS WE CAN GET.
THANK YOU
BETTY MARTIN
